Abdulrahman Alkhalaf Academic Reflection Paper 1 Sociology of Deviance What are the â€Å"ABCs† of deviance? Why are all three regarded as types of deviance? How can sociologists refer to traits or characteristics that are â€Å"not the person’s fault† as instances of deviance? Is this fair? Is it sociologically meaningful? What about belonging to a particular racial, national, or ethnic category--can this be regarded as a form of deviance? Why or why not? The society has devised certain set of norms and values that every member of the society has to follow in order to live in a socially accepted manner. The deviation or violation of these norms is called as deviant behavior. The ABC’s of deviant behavior are the attitude, behaviors and conditions. According to the psychology, the attitude is normal behavior in different circumstances. The attitudes determine the spiritual life of each individual. This term has particular application in the study of character. Attitudes are conventional and unpopular beliefs, which may lead towards the deviant behavior. These attitudes include mental illness, political views, or strong religious beliefs. Behavior is the act of the person through which he can display his attitudes, beliefs and feelings. These behaviors are explicit acts which show the inside of a person and leads to criticism or approval from the society.
